Mentes Puertorriqueñas en Acción empowers a network of young agents of change who generate inclusive and effective change for Puerto Rico.

Alejandro is the executive director of Mentes Puertorriqueñas en Acción, a local organization in Puerto Rico. Previously, he worked in the nonprofit space as a consultant and a project coordinator. His focus is around youth empowerment and volunteerism to help find solutions for local challenges. Mentes Puertorriqueñas en Acción is a start-up nonprofit that sprang out of the economic and social situation in Puerto Rico with the hope of youth having a greater role to play. Currently the organization operates on volunteers and he is the only full-time employee of the organization.

Philanthropy University courses taken:

Fundraising, Leadership

Learning from Philanthropy University:

The fundraising course he took helped him to focus his efforts on relationship building. He formulated a tailored plan for all of his key relationships and launched a fundraising effort to encourage support. He found Philanthropy University courses integral to his work. As part of this work, he developed a matrix of all the key relationships held by his board members, including the strength of their relationships, the type of relationship and systematically reached out to them to generate new leads. He also piloted an internship program.
